The festival is observed for the remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s greatest sacrifice which was to obey the words of Allah. He had a dream in which Allah asked him to slaughter his lovely son prophet Ismail in his name. When prophet Ibrahim narrated the dream to his lovely son which was indeed a command from Allah. The son agreed on it saying if that’s Allah’s will then it should happen. So prophet Ibrahim agonizingly takes the son to the sacred slaughter. Eventually, Allah overwhelmed both prophet Ibrahim and Ismaiel’s willingness to sacrifice in Allah’s name. Angel Gabriel offers a lamb to sacrifice for Allah instead. Hence that’s the action till date followed by the Muslims all over the world.
There is a rule behind the distribution of meat among Muslims at Eid-ul-Adha. As a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice, Muslims could take the best domestic animal (generally Camel, cow, goat, sheep)to slaughter in the name of Allah. It is then distributed among the poor people and affluent Muslims (with conditions )The slaughter begins after the prayer and khutba of Eid-ul-Adha which could last for three days along with Thakbeer commenced from as to lunar calendar Dhu al-Hijjah 1st till 13Dhu al-Hijjah.
